SULC Mourns the Passing of Professor Cynthia Picou

The Southern University Law Center family mourns the passing of Professor Cynthia Picou who long-served on the faculty and was a well-recognized expert in family law. She passed away in her sleep on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at her home in Albany, New York where she had moved to be with her son and his family after retiring from the faculty in 2012.

Professor Picou was an icon at SULC.  Her past students note:
“She was always quick witted and made us laugh, and it was obvious how brilliant she was.”
“The world has lost a great woman and a brilliant legal mind.&rdquo“What a great and fun lady!”Many colleagues on the faculty and SULC graduates note that she was a favorite because she was funny, passionate, and truly cared for her students.

“We adored Prof. Picou. She was one of our most memorable professors, and we still laugh at the memory of her antics.”

“When she left, I remember feeling sorry for the classes behind me that would never get to experience her class.”

“We have so many great stories from her class! We had a great time and we learned so much, including how to take criticism and laugh at ourselves, which has come in handy in this profession. She was very special to us.”

The memorial ceremony for Professor Picou will take place on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, located at 11485 Ferdinand Street in St. Francisville, Louisiana, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
