2018 New Student Orientation

August 16-24, 2018

Day Division

The program has been designed to help you transition into the law school environment. The day begins with continental breakfast, a photo session for the school directory and mini-informational sessions to help explain various aspects of the law school.  Chancellor John Pierre and the President of the Student Bar Association, Xavieria Jeffers, will greet you.

The day will continue with an introduction to professionalism by the Louisiana State Bar Association Committee on the Profession. An Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court and the President of the Louisiana State Bar Association will make presentations. Small break out groups, including legal practitioners, will discuss the importance of professionalism in the practice of law.

After lunch, students will take the oath of professionalism and will receive additional information concerning academic and student policies, career counseling and Title IX.  Students will return Friday morning and begin Lawyering Fundamentals.  This course is designed to simulate the law school experience and prepare students for their entrance into law school.

Completing Lawyering Fundamentals is mandatory for all students and will be used as the basis for a portion of your Legal Writing and Analysis grade.

Evening Division

The program will begin Thursday August 16 at 5:00 pm, with registration, a photo session for the school directory and a reception. The evening will begin with greetings from the Chancellor and the Student Bar Association President Xavieria Jeffers. Students will take the oath of professionalism and receive additional information on academic and student policies, career counseling and financial aid.  A session on professionalism sponsored by the Louisiana State Bar Association Committee on the Profession will be conducted.

Students will return Saturday morning, August 17, 2017, to begin Lawyering Fundamentals.  This course is designed to simulate the law school experience and prepare students for their entrance into law school.  Completing Lawyering Fundamentals is mandatory for all students and will be used as the basis for a portion of your Legal Writing and Analysis grade.

Class Schedules

Class schedules are prepared through the Records and Registration Department and are created for 1-L students automatically. To access your account on the school’s website, click on the “Banner” tab at the top right side of the home page and use your “S” number to log in. The default password for your account is your birthday (000000). The booklist should be available soon.
